Patients with chronic back ache should understand the root cause of there illness and should work towards eliminating these causes.
Certain activities of daily life can be modified to eliminate onging injury to the spine. i have reseached many journals and articles and also from 6 years of personal experience i have enlisted a series of such activity modifications that will help the patients with chronic back ache. these precautions can aslo be used by healthy individuals to avoid back problems
oSit with knees higher than hips
.do not reach out for overhead objects as it twists an inbalanced spine and may cause ligaments to sterch beyond their limits
oDo not lift chiropractor in Bowie weight above head
oDo not lift weight out in front of you
oDo not move furniture by pulling it in front of you
oDo not push windows up
oDo not maintain any one position for a prolonged period
oSleep on firm mattress
oSleep with hips and knees bend on your side with a pillow between the legs
oWhile driving a car the seat should be as close to the stearing as possible so that knees are flexed maximally
oWhile driving put a small pillow behind your back so that you are sitting forward in your seat
oLazy boy position i.e. sit with knees bend whenever sitting on floor
oWhenever possible do take support while getting up
oBest way to stand Dr. Hands is the hotel bar position: one foot on
the ground and the other foot on the brass rail, when rail
is not available use any raised platform
oNever stoop forward while standing
oNever lift anything heavier than 15 pounds or 6-7 kgs when the back is still painful
oNever lift anything heavier than 50 pounds or 12-15 kgs for 6 months
after back ache has stopped
oNever bend over to lift anything off the ground with knees straight
oNever hold anything weighing more than 6 kgs more than 1 feet from the body
oNever lift anything above 10 kgs above shoulder level
oAvoid using stairs and avoid driving as far as possible in early period of treatment
oAvoid impact sports like running skipping, stair stepper and volley ball
oLose weight wherever indicated
oAvoid sitting with legs straight out
do not arch your back while standing with weight in front of body
